K-9 Officer Faust, a German Shepherd with the BNSF Railway Police Force in Texas, recently received a heartfelt farewell after dedicating eight years of his life to serving the community alongside his handler, Senior Special Agent Bryan Schaffer. Faust served as both an Explosives Detection and Patrol dog, demonstrating exceptional proficiency and unwavering dedication throughout his career.
On March 3, 2017, Faust completed his last shift, marking the end of his service. In a touching tradition, he received a final radio call from the dispatcher, acknowledging his years of service and wishing him a happy retirement. The emotional moment was captured on video and shared on BNSF Railway’s YouTube channel, where it has garnered over 720,000 views.
The bond between Faust and Officer Schaffer was evident as they sat together in the patrol car, with Faust whimpering softly at the end of the call. Officer Schaffer, visibly moved, gave Faust a kiss, expressing his gratitude for their partnership and Faust’s role in keeping them safe.
Faust’s retirement was filled with love and appreciation from both his colleagues and the community he served. Officer Schaffer thanked Faust for his service and described him as not just a partner but a beloved member of their family. Sadly, Faust passed away in 2020 at the age of 13, but his legacy of courage, loyalty, and dedication lives on.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Faust was posthumously inducted into the We Ride to Provide (WRTP) Hall of Fame, ensuring that his memory will be cherished forever.
