Daughter-in-law throws me out of My Home.
When a mother feels like she’s not fully involved in her child’s life, she’s in the deepest pain. Greta is heartbroken because her son and daughter-in-law told her she had to leave because they had to make room for someone else. The fact that they are living in Greta’s house makes her pain even worse. She asked us for help and sent us her story.
This is the letter from Greta:
“When my only son got married, I told him and his wife they could move in with me because my house is big and I live by myself.” What a happy day for my daughter-in-law Meredith.
My daughter-in-law no longer wants me to go, though, because it’s “too crowded” after 4 years and 3 kids.
She is also pregnant again, and since she is having another baby, my room will be given to the new baby. She has set up for me to move into a small studio apartment close to the house and is offering to pay the rent.
When I wouldn’t leave my house, my son told me, “Mom, we’ve been feeling awkward all this time because we haven’t had as much privacy as a new couple would need.”
I stood my ground and said, “This has been my home for 43 years, and I’m not leaving it.” But my son said, “If you don’t move out now, Mom, then we will, and you won’t see your grandkids anymore.”
I’m so upset that I feel like my heart has been broken and my reality has been shattered. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Greta”
