I Won’t Give Up My Pleasure to Save My Grandson

We all want my family to be healthy and happy. But there are times when our own needs must come first. Betty, who was 72 years old and had lost her husband, had been saving hard for a long-awaited trip. Her plans were thrown off when her grandson got really sick and her family asked for the money she had saved. There was a big fight because Betty wouldn’t help. She has now written to us to ask for help.
Here is the letter from Betty:
“I’m 72 years old and have lost my husband. For years I’ve been saving money to take my sister on a cruise.
My grandson, who is 8 years old, became very sick not long ago. The treatments cost a lot, and they want me to give them some of my savings. “Sorry, but I won’t give up my happiness,” I said. This could be my last trip possible because I’m getting old. People said mean things about my parenting, and my son told me, “You’ll never see your grandchild again.”
My mind was blown by his sudden and harsh choice. My son smiled and said, “This is the last time you’ll see me or my family.” I hope your trip is worth it.
Was my choice selfish? Should I not be able to enjoy life a little with the money I’ve been saving for years?
We’d really like to hear your thoughts.
Thank you,
Betty”
