I gave my house to my son, but he lied to me in a horrible way.
Betrayed trust is one of the worst feelings in the world, but it’s even worse when it comes from a family member. When Josie’s son lied to her, she was crushed. The loving mother gave her house to her son and his new wife so they could start a family in comfort. But things went in a direction Josie never would have imagined. She wrote to us to tell us her story and get help.
This is Josie’s letter:
“I live by myself in a house with three bedrooms.” My newlywed son kept telling me that it would be a great place to start a family, so I gave it to them while I moved in with my sister who had lost her husband.
My son told me yesterday that his wife’s mother is moving in with them. I stated, “I didn’t leave my home to have her live with you.” “We lied about starting a family right away,” my son-in-law told me. We’re not ready yet; we’re still too young. “But my mom is by herself,” she said. She’ll move in with us now that we have a bigger house.
I was very angry and told them I didn’t agree with this plan. She said that it was still my house, so I told her that. Then my son said, “My MIL needs us a lot more than you do.” I need to take care of her because she’s now part of my family.
It breaks my heart to feel betrayed. What should I do?
Thanks, Josie”
