My son’s wife insists on dropping off my grandchildren, and I can’t stand it anymore.
A lot of people are very happy when their grandchildren come into their lives. They bring new energy and love. But as modern life gets busier, grandparents often have to do more than just babysit, which can be bad for their own health. This is exactly what’s going on in today’s story.
She told us what happened.
My son and daughter-in-law have been married for about seven years now. They have two kids. All of my kids are grown up and living their own lives. My husband and I are still working, but we plan to retire in 10 to 15 years. About 70.
Before the kids came along, my DIL and I got along a lot better. They live 30 minutes away, and she tries to drop them off all the time. I believed my son was involved, but he wasn’t. He didn’t know what was going on when I sat them down.
He thought I had only babysat twice this month, even though I had actually done it 16 times after I showed him all the texts asked me to do it. It looks like she’s been dropping them off with me to hang out with friends, but my son thought she was taking them her.
I began talking to them in a group chat, which made sure that everyone was on the same page. To avoid getting too many texts about it, I only talk to her in the group chat and send her a screenshot. Then I tell my son to handle it.
From what we’ve talked about, it seems like she wants her children to have the same relationship with their grandparents that she did with hers. I told them that I was still working and that I would not be in that relationship. I can’t have the kids every other day like she did when she was a kid. We agreed to have a grandma’s day every two weeks.
Before my son’s work trips, everything was fine for about a year. Now she’s back to it. Because of the time difference, it’s hard to get him to turn it off when it is time.
She came to my house after I had been there for about an hour. She asked me to watch the kids while she went shopping. I was done at this point. I let her know that I had my own life and would not be the bland grandmother she wanted. I also told her that if she ever tried to leave the kids with me without my permission again, I would report her to the police for abandonment.
She yelled at me and stormed off. My son called to try to make things better and told me I might have gone too far.
