Four young boys rescue an abandoned and starving dog. It was tied to the house with bungee cords.

There is light where there is darkness, and there are heroes where there are villains.

This last difference was proven beyond a doubt when four young boys in the 7 Mile area of Detroit did everything they could to save a dog that was in terrible need.

The Dancy brothers (Kenny, Kenneth, and Kevin) and their friend Andrew Daniels were helping a local woman move when they saw something that would have shocked any adult.

They found a stray dog with bungee cords tied to the back of a house. The poor dog was in terrible shape. It was skinny and shivering from being out in the cold.

The boys were aware that they needed to move quickly. After freeing the dog from her chains and taking her home to feed and water her, they wrapped her in a winter coat to keep her warm. They named her Sparkle.

As luck would have it, they ran into people from the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue while walking Sparkle around the neighborhood.

They told the men about the dog and the men thought that Sparkle also had mange. The organization took her in for veterinary care and thanked them deeply in a Facebook video calling the boys “heroes.”

The group’s founder, Theresa Sumpter, told WDIV, “You could tell they really love this dog.”

The people looked out for the dog and wanted to make sure it went to a good place.

It was clear that Sparkle didn’t have the mange after she was tested at the shelter. This means that she could be adopted quickly. A sister organization, Pet Tales Rescue, oversaw the process and found Sparkles a foster mom who would love her very much.

The four young boys, who were praised for their kindness, then went on to save two more dogs in the same nearby neighborhood. Because of Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, they were able to get the dogs from the streets to the vet to get care.

These young men have made me so proud. What wonderful examples they are for all of us.
